Our Journey Towards Self Sufficiency

Here is my story, how I got here and what I'm up to. In September 2012, after a lot of searching around Dublin, myself and my partner bought a house with some land in the Dublin mountains in the valley of Glenasmole and set about making it into a smallholding.

Our goal was to be as self sufficient as we could, both from a food point of view and energy, and combining it with modern living. It's a constant work in progress, with trials and errors, but I'm using my blog to track our progress and if anyone else is trying to do something similar, I hope this helps them by learning from our mistakes. We are now growing and producing far more produce than we can use.

So from time to time when we have more than we can use we sell it to people who are interested in eating great natural food reared and grown organically on our farm. This produce includes several different types of raw honey, beef, pork & eggs.

I'm a passionate bee farmer, who cares about my incredible honey bees who work hard to produce lots of 100% raw, local honey from around South Dublin and North Wicklow. When I moved up to the smallholding I had only started beekeeping about a month and planned on keeping only a couple of colonies to supply us with honey. We have grown significantly since. Last winter we had 220 colonies and will continue to grow in 2022.

Thanks to all our happy and loyal customers that continue to support us and enable us to grow.
